CHOIR NEWS: Margaret Mary Emsley - Former Patron of the Choir
Dear CMVC,
Well! What can I say but WOW!
Castleford Male Voice Choir certainly gave my Mum the perfect performance at her funeral service on Tuesday.
I cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to honour my Mum’s request, and within such a short period of notice. The Choir turnout was impressive for which I am so grateful, as was the liaison between your spokesman and the member of the funeral director team who handled this request.
You moved many people to tears with powerful songs and hymns and made me personally feel so proud that The Choir contributed so professionally to my Mum’s farewell.
Due to the demands of the day, I have to apologise for having been unable to say a “Thank you” to your Choir members but I have to say that I thank them all from the bottom of my heart as will, I am sure, my dear Mum.
Kindest regards and best wishes,
J.H.

CHOIR NEWS: Stan Haywood's 90th
RAFA Club, Castleford, 8th october
To celebrate the remarkable event of our oldest chorister Stan Haywood’s 90th Birthday, certain members of the choir let down their hair (or what’s left of it!) and had a karaoke party with individual and ensemble performances.
It was a splendid evening and the choir sang some of its repertoire including “Love is all Around”, “Sweet Caroline” and “We are the Champions”. Stan himself did not pass up the opportunity and played his full part in the singing. Long may he continue to do so.
It just goes to show that singing does keep one feeling young. We look forward to his 100th birthday!
CHOIR NEWS: St. Giles Concert, 23rd June 2018
Joint concert with barnburgh male choir - st. giles church, sunday 23rd june 2018
This was one of our most enjoyable and well supported concerts for both Choristers and those who attended. During a half time break, a number of audience members spoke to choir members and expressed appreciation of both the quality of the performance of the choirs and soloists, and of the content of the programme selected.
On completion of the programme, our guests and audience members were invited to enjoy a drink and buffet which was laid out in the cafe area of the Church and this was also well attended. This also led to further mingling of choir members with audience members which is never a bad thing.
Special mention is due to St.Giles’s Church which is a go ahead venue and to the caterers who did an excellent job in ensuring that everyone received due care and attention.
If our future events manage to achieve similar success as this one, then our efforts to recruit new singers and Patrons would be that little bit less of a problem.
Well done to all.
CHOIR NEWS: Norwegian Cruise Photographs
Norwegian Fjords Cruise 3-8 May 2018
On 3 May a group from CMVC with friends and family set sail from Newcastle on board Fred Olson's Balmoral to cruise the Norwegia Fjords. They were joined by another group of choristers from Chesterfield Male Voice Choir together with their friends and relatives giving a total group of 46 including 20 singers. Andris the conductor and Jenena the accompanist.
Everyone was a bit wary about the weather and crossing the North Sea but everything was fine. The food was excellent, the drinks flowed and the two parties soon gelled as one. The fjords were breath taking and one could almost visualise Kirk Douglas and his Vikings coming round the bend. The ship docked in two ports and the weather was favourable enabling those who wished to go out and explore these fascinating towns. The rest of the time was spent viewing the magnificent scenery and drinking in the numerous bars situated around the ship.
The choristers from both choirs combined to form Men Who Sing and during the cruise two concerts had been arranged in the main Neptune theatre area. There were about 500 seats in the theatre and we played to a full house on both occasions. Both choirs had solo artists who were well received. We sang our hearts out and Andris was pleased with our performance.
What an experience. Everyone had a wonderful time and we made new friends from Chesterfield with possibly a joint concert in the future.
